A road trip through Oman

Over the course of a week, you will have the opportunity to cross the impressive Jebel Shams mountains, bathe in the turquoise waters of the wadis, surrender to nature during a night in the heart of the desert and experience Oman's incredible coastline.

You will also have the chance to explore authentic Omani towns such as Nizwa, Sur and Muscat, giving you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture and hospitality of this magnificent country.

  • During your road trip, you’ll have several options for dining:

     

    In your 4x4, you'll find cooking equipment. If you're up for experimenting with local ingredients, you can shop at various places along the way. You'll find the supermarkets we recommend in the road book.

     

    Want to explore the local cuisine? In the road book, you'll find all sorts of nice restaurants located in your camps or along your route.

     

    Oman is a Muslim country, you won't find alcohol anywhere. Only hotels and a few establishments offer alcoholic beverages. We encourage you to take this week to try out the local drinks.

     

    You can find bottled drinking water in all supermarkets. However, in front of every mosque, there are drinking water taps that you can use for free.

Activities not to miss in Oman

Where are you expected and how do you get there?

Your trip starts in Muscat.

We’ll be expecting you at our car rental partner on day 1 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM to pick up your vehicle.

You can travel to Oman from various international airports. Make sure to book your flight to Muscat International Airport (MCT).

Flights

There are several ways to get to Muscat. Make sure you arrive at Muscat International Airport (MCT), and bear in mind the itinerary when booking your flights.

We recommend comparing the different flight options via Google Flights.

Where and when can you pick up the car?

You can pick up your car on day 1 between 9:30am and 1pm at Qurum Parking (Way 666), where our car rental partner will be waiting for you.

On day 7, you must return the car to the same location by 5:00 pm at the latest. Afterwards, you can head to the hotel that we have reserved for your final night.

How do you get to our car rental partner?

The car park is about a 20-minute drive from the airport. You can take a taxi from the airport for around €30.

FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by email.

What is the payment procedure?
Within 5 days after your registration, you must pay a deposit of 35% to confirm your trip. After that, you still have until a few weeks before departure to modify your options and pay the remaining balance. If you make changes, the deposit is automatically recalculated. There are various payment options, including Bancontact, Mastercard, iDeal. If you have a Travelbase voucher, you can use it as well. If your payment fails, it is likely due to an incorrect reference number or exceeding your account limit.
Can I modify my registration?
Depending on availability, you can add or remove most options (except cancellation insurance) until 45 days before departure. Generally, we follow a first-come, first-served principle, so early decision-makers are at an advantage.
What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?
The Superflex cancellation conditions are available for anyone who books early. You can reschedule your trip to another period within the same season (depending on availability) or cancel for free until 1 August 2026. If the deadline to use the Superflex conditions has passed, the general cancellation conditions apply.
Can I still cancel my trip?

With how many people can I book this road trip?
Oman Nomads has been specifically designed for groups of 2 or 3 people. A standard group consists of 2 people, but a group of 3 can also join on each departure date. In this case, we will provide an extra ground tent and camping equipment. Groups of three will receive a €350 discount on their final invoice.
What is included in the price?
The basic price includes the following: a fully equipped car, overnight stays at unique locations, sleeping equipment, camping equipment, cooking equipment, a comprehensive roadbook with useful tips and tricks, access to an exclusive app, and support before and during your trip.
What are the additional costs?
  • Fuel: ± €100 per car for the entire road trip.
  • Food and drinks (more information under the food and drinks section).
  • Entrance fees to places of interest.
  • Parking.
  • Local SIM card or eSIM: €12 for 6 GB.
  • Personal expenses, such as souvenirs.
How old do I need to be to be able to drive?
For this trip, you must be at least 21 years old and have held a driving licence for 2 years.
What documents do I need for this trip?
  • An international passport valid for at least 6 months after your return date.
  • A national or European driving licence.
  • You do not need a visa for your Oman Nomads trip unless you plan to extend your stay to more than 14 days in total.
